Thanksgiving Acrostic Contest!

I shall leave it to others to be thoughtful about the holiday, although I do know how very lucky I am every day of the year. But I used to teach acrostic poetry as an elementary school teacher, and silliness has soundly trumped seriousness this post. So here is my THANKS for romance.

T empting

H eated

A ching

N aughty

K isses

S atisfy.

Now comes the GIVING part. Your turn. You can pick THANKS, too (GIVING is way harder! Or do the whole THANKSGIVING if you really want to impress. *g*). Enter as many times as you like. It doesn’t have to be a sentence, or even make sense. One random poet will get November’s prizes. Winner and new post Sunday, November 25.

Have a wonderful holiday with those you love.

We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. ~Thornton Wilder

He gives her THANKS for all she’s worth.
She HANDS him all her turf.
After the rain, they all play.
Not that he would love her any other way.
    Selfishly, he stands in glee.
    Gratifying is her work.
    In tone, we sing.
    Very happy, they be.
    Inside you and me.
Never forcing each other to retreat.
Grieving that we never truly meet.

Terrio, It was ALL Haven. It’s as if she channeled the inner me. I’ve got a lot Victorianish stuff, and collect things in these colors. It was kind of scary, actually. Haven’s in my brain!

Gillian, I’ve had a really big mug of tea, and I’m still not feeling the poetry this morning, LOL.

    That is where you see.
    Having the grace to leave.
After all that said and done.
    Never say I haven’t run.
    Kind words gifted in fun.
    Save me if I run.
    Gee, you love me.
If you ever truly see me.
    Vanity will be thy name.
    Into the universe we run.
Not too far into the future is the sun.
Graciously relieved that you won me.

Maggie, I love your new design! You’ve always had a “destination blog,” but now–so beautiful!

There are some acrostic poems in the Bible, in Psalms. Of course they get lost in translation since the acrostics are in Hebrew (aleph, bet, gimel)! I wish I could remember which ones–I should’ve paid more attention in school.

I spent all day at work yesterday writing down words starting with “V” and “I” (in between writing clinical notes in hospice patient charts) and then came home to read all the fabulous entries everyone else has been writing and I felt thoroughly intimidated. . .

Not only do you have a beautiful blog, but you have the best commenters in the blogosphere!
